St John's Men's Group
St John's Mini Musicmakers
There are two A.A.W. Groups in the parish. The Evening Group meets on the second Tuesday of each month, at 7:30 p.m. The Afternoon Group meets on the second Thursday of each month, at 2:00 p.m. The meetings are held in the Parish Lounge. Further details can be obtained from the president of the Evening Group, Margaret Tegg (476 4505), or the Afternoon Group, Verna Rutherford (476 3975). Visitors are very welcome at both meetings.
Several small groups meet in people's homes as part of St John's church life. They meet for fellowship, Bible study and spiritual support and growth.
Groups currently operate on Wednesday and Thursday evenings in both weekly and fortnightly formats. Recent resources used include Rick Warren's Purpose Driven Life and Philip Yancey's What's so Amazing about Grace.
If you are interested in joining a house group please contact Christine Barnsley (489 2424).
A shared lunch is held after the 10:00 a.m. service on the second Sunday of each month. Regular parishioners and visitors are warmly invited to stay for fellowship and good food. (The lunch typically starts at about noon.) Please bring food to share - but if you can't or haven't, don't let that stop you from coming! There's always plenty to go around.
The Choir (four parts) sings for the 10:00 a.m. service each Sunday, except on the third Sunday of the month, when it sings traditional Evensong at 7:00 p.m. Rehearsals are on Thursday evening, 7:30 to 8:30. New members are always welcome.
Contact: Alan Edwards, Organist and Choirmaster (telephone 477 2865).
St John's Men's Group
The Men's Group meets at 7:00 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. Venues will be advised in the weekly pew sheets.

St John's Mini Musicmakers
The Music and Movement Groups, for pre-schoolers and their parents or caregivers, meet for half an hour of singing, playing instruments and moving to music, followed by morning tea and a chat. Many mothers new to our area have found this to be a good "networking" time. There are two groups, meeting at 9:15 a.m. on Thursdays and Fridays. The groups meet in the Kataluma (the new lounge; see our Ground Plan); excellent toilet and baby facilities are available. Costs are covered by a weekly gold coin donation per family.
For further information please contact Sarah Kyte (Thursday group; telephone 464 0230) or Nicola Wong (Friday group; telephone 455 2885).
At St John's we place great emphasis on our ministry to children, with regular Sunday School classes held during the 10:00 a.m. Sunday service. Lessons are taught by a team of committed and experienced teachers, generally rostered on for two or three times each term. (They like to be able to worship in church on the other Sundays!)
Children come into church just before 10:00 a.m. with their families or friends; then after the first hymn and a prayer for our learning in Sunday School all children go to the lounge for a shared time with singing and prayer. Following that, the lessons for each particular age-group take place.
At about 10:50 a.m. the children are brought back into church to sit with their families so all can celebrate being together with the wider family of St John's at the Eucharist. Parents of new children are welcome to accompany them to Sunday School and to withdraw whenever they feel is the right time. Be assured that our teachers are quite relaxed about this.
Please note that on the third Sunday of each month Sunday School is replaced by an All Age Eucharist where the worship includes participation by the children in the content and running of the service.
The co-ordinators of Sunday School activities are Nicola Wong (telephone 455 2885) and Sarah Kyte (telephone 464 0230).
The Sunday School Christmas Pageant; 9th December 2007
St John's Youth meets for a hot chocolate, Bible study and prayer - to build friendships and help each other to follow Jesus.
The group (for year 6 up, including teens) meets during the 10:00 a.m. Sunday service in term time (except on the third Sunday of each month when there is an All Age service), leaving church after the first part of the service and returning in time for Communion.
For more information, please contact Andrew Barlow (phone: 027 721 4092 or e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org).
But wait, there's more . . .
St John's and St Matthew's are exploring the possibility of a new joint youth group, for people in years 6 to 9.
This will be a place where our young people can have fun, explore their faith, eat food, get to know each other and invite their friends. The initial idea is that it will run fortnightly, possibly early on a Friday evening, at each church once a month.
If you feel this is something you might be able to help with, please talk to Andrew Barlow (contact details above). Further information will be posted as it becomes available.
