Children and Families
St John's Roslyn welcomes families.
Children’s Church, 10:00 a.m. service
At St John’s we place great emphasis on our ministry to children, with a children's programme running alongside the 10:00 a.m. Sunday service. Three groups are led by a team of committed parishioners, sharing the duties with one another.
Children come into church just before 10:00 a.m. with their families or friends; then after the reading of the gospel, children go to the lounge for a shared time with singing and prayer before separating into smaller groups for study. We all gather together once more to share in the Eucharist. Parents are welcome to accompany their children to Sunday School and to withdraw whenever they feel is the right time. Be assured that our teachers are quite relaxed about this.
The third Sunday of each month is an All Age Service and children are invited to participate in the service with their families and friends.
Activity clipboards with paper and pens are always available at the rear of the church, along with some children's books which children are welcome to take into the pews with them for use during the service. For preschoolers there is a small selection of quiet toys in the side chapel.
A separate creche is available off the lounge with comfy chairs and more toys, and access to baby-change facilities.
We have several activities for youth.
Youth on Sundays
During the 10:00am Sunday service, St John’s young people (Years 6-9) meet for a hot chocolate, Bible study and prayer – to build friendships and help each other to follow Jesus. Our youth rejoin their family in time to take Holy Communion with them.
On alternate Friday evenings, young people (school years 6-9) are invited to JaM! We meet for games, food, study, and prayer based around a theme.
On non-JaM Fridays, our older teenagers (school years 10-13) meet in a parishioner's home for After JaM! - a shared meal, conversation, study and games.
Games nights and more for the whole family
Throughout the year we hold several events where people of all ages can gather and socialise. These include the occasional Friday night games nights, where we bring board games and eat pizza - a great way to try a new game and have a natter with people.
